Hello
and thank you for
visiting Britteli Kennel. My name is Lisa Finch and I have
been a "dog person" all my life. Growing up, we always had
dogs (Poodles) in our home and I have just naturally continued the
tradition into adulthood. In 1999 I was introduced to the
Shih Tzu with my very first little girl, Chloe, and from that day
forward, I was hooked! Chloe taught me many things about the
Shih Tzu, but, more importantly, she taught me the hard way about the
need for education and responsibility among breeders. Almost
from Day 1, Chloe had health problems. It started with
chronic kidney problems and progressed to include cataracts and finally
diabetes. In 2005, her tiny body just couldn't take any more
and Chloe finally succumbed to the diabetes. In the years
that she suffered, I made it my mission to become educated, not only
about her specific ailments, but also about the other common inherited
diseases of the Shih Tzu. I used every resource available,
including reputable Shih Tzu breeders, veterinarians and other Shih Tzu
owners. When I made the decision to have my first litter of
puppies in 2006, I was armed with the information and dedication
necessary to produce healthy, happy puppies who will bring joy and
warmth to their adoptive Moms and Dads for many years. If you have
read my contract and wondered why it is so restrictive, now you have
your answer!
The adults that I have
were carefully chosen for health, temperament and conformation in their
pedigrees. All of my dogs live in my home with me, my
husband, Rick, and my youngest son, Eli, and are all spoiled lap
babies. We have two rooms in our home that are totally dedicated
to our dogs, one 10 x 16 for our boys and one 19 x 19 for our girls and
babies. My breeding program is first geared toward producing
healthy puppies from healthy adults . . . beyond that, I breed for good
temperament and conformation.
These are pictures of
the half-acre fenced section of our backyard where our babies are free
to romp and play, weather permitting! That's our
"shop"/greenhouse in the background.
